The biannual Mid American GIS Consortium (MAGIC) Conference was held last week in Kansas City, Missouri. Half of the Iowa GIS Service Bureau was able to attend, and it proved informative, useful, and entertaining . Mid-American GIS users from all levels of government, private business, education, and any other category you can imagine, presented, listened to, and discussed GIS topics from Monday to Thursday.
Among the wide range of presentations including Lidar processing, new US Census download tools, and 3D analysis of reservoir siltation was an introduction and overview of the Iowa GIS Service Bureau. In the image above Evan Koester from the Service Bureau is presenting the initial findings of the state agency usage and needs assessment the Service Bureau initially undertook last Fall.
The conference was a good way to reconnect with GIS users from all around Iowa (picture above) and the Midwest and learn of their successes.
The Service Bureau would like to encourage anyone interested in GIS to seriously consider attending the MAGIC Conference in 2014.
