Hot and Dry - U.S. Drought Portal

Check out this web application provided by the National Integrated Drought Information System.

Drought is measured on a scale of D0 to D4. The D0 determination indicates that the location is abnormally dry.  D1 indicates a moderate drought; D2 is severe drought; and D3 is extreme drought.  The D4 drought measurement indicates exceptional drought.  Looking at the map of the United States there are four states are experiencing exceptional drought: Texas, New Mexico, Georgia, and Alabama.

Here in the Midwest areas of Minnesota and Iowa are experiencing severe drought.  Although spring "officially" started on Tuesday, March 20th, we have had unseasonably warm and dry weather for the last several weeks.
