Last Thursday the Iowa GIS Service Bureau attended and presented at the annual Iowa IT Symposium in Des Moines, IA. The IT Symposium is a day full of information technology focused breakout sessions, keynote presentations, and networking opportunities.
Though not specifically a GIS or geospatial conference, many people seemed familiar with the benefits of spatial information. Audience members from private industry and government institutions brought up questions related to mapping customer/client locations, insurance rate inputs, and general data maintenance.
The day was a unique opportunity to discuss the value of GIS with an interested, but not necessarily "GIS crowd". Overall it was a valuable experience to reach outside our normal sphere of interaction.
