When the Weather Outside is Frightful

It's always good to check the road conditions before heading out.

Today we would like to highlight the Iowa Traveler Information Website.  This website is a partnership between the Iowa State Patrol, Iowa Department of Transportation, and the national 511 consortium.  It is available in several different formats for viewing on computer as well as a version for smart phones and other devices.

The website provides up-to-date information about road conditions, road closures, crashes, and roadwork. Icons on the map indicate where crashes and closures occur and hovering over an icon can provide additional details. The legend on the right provides an example of  icons that might be seen on the map.

This screen capture was taken during last week's snow storm.  As you can see, most of the roads in Central Iowa weren't good for traveling. Most of the roads were partially to completely covered with snow and slush.

We wish you a safe and happy New Year!
