Who Else Uses GIS in Iowa?

One of the benefits of a Geographic Information System is the capacity to communicate information visually, usually in the form of a map.  This results in understanding data beyond what most people are able to understand from tables and lists, and is important when people make decisions that affect people's lives.

To help Iowa's legislators stay up-to-date with issues discussed in the capitol, the Legislative Services Agency (LSA) publishes maps on all sorts of topics for our Senators and House Members.  Just recently LSA started publishing a "Map of the Week" on its website.

You can search the archives to see previously published maps.  So far, the maps have presented information related to poverty, health insurance, education, and taxes.

You might want to add it to your list of weekly web visits!
